These plugin rises to save the IBM (In Box Mixes)!Ĭan't you buy a Top Console or a good Summing Box?No. RC Tube= Classic 1950's all tube broadcast console. They brings the sound of 5 legendary analog consoles to your DAW: The Slate's VCC (Virtual Console Collection) plugin cames in two formats: One for each track and one to the Master Fader. To be honest you cant go wrong with this, it sounds great and is cheap for what it does! (£30GBP) Although it would be nice to have a few more features to fine tweak if you really wanted to. Firstly I think its great for putting on your default track templates so you can adjust the drive accordingly throughout your mixdown. There is not a whole heap of nobs and features which is good and bad. The individual input and drive per channel is cool too, I found it a little harsh on my kick drum so by ungrouping it from the mix bus worked a treat! Its as close to turning Logic into analogue as iv got so far! Other saturation/emulation plugins have not been so impressive. It is now the first plugin on every channel for my tracks. It enhanced the low-mids and made them real warm and pretty fat! Its a very subtle effect but a very pleasing one at that. For the first test I put it on a track I had already near enough finished. This review thread was for the VCC but im currently using the RC-Tube (1/5 of the VCC for anyone who doesn't know).įirst time I used it I literally sat back and couldn't believe the difference. Overall, It has been a great purchase for me and something that I use when I start every mix. The best part is that you can mix and match consoles by creating a buss for each group and applying that console to just the drums and then another for the vocals, etc. The last mix I completed had a chain of the UAD Studer, VCC Neve, UAD Neve and it was wonderful. I have found it a great tool when combining with any of the Waves or UAD hardware emulations. What really takes it over the top is if you have additional plugins that are emulations of the eq's. Overall, It adds to a mix in a subtle, pleasing way. Nice air and without removing too much body. The RC Tube: I have been really loving this on my vocal buss. The Neve: Produces a thick bottom end which is great but can be too much on the wrong material. The Trident: Has a little more imaging and also nice on the midrange. The API: Has a nice midrange that I enjoy on many things. The SSL: I have used this on tracks that I want to have a bit more smack. Place a virtual channel on each track and then a mix buss on the final out.

I used it on windows 7/vista and cubase 5/6 with no issues. I, however, never experienced any of the issues that the threads discussed. There were many problems at the beginning and that is well documented. I seriously cannot see myself mixing ITB again without these plugins, they truly are a MUST HAVE!Īs many of you long term gearslutz out there know, this vst has a legendary long entry on the forum. The harder you hit it.the more aggressive the sound. You can either set them all to be the same console type (via a nice Grouping Feature), or mix and match each track with a different console sound! You can even further tweak the calibration of the console based on your tracks gain/levels and how hard you want to hit this virtual desk. Neve: HUGE low end warmth with a WIDE sound stage.Įase of use - Simply slap on "channel plugin" on each of your DAW tracks and one "Buss plugin" on your master buss. Trident: Has lot of depth and 3-d'ness, overall rounder tone.ĪPI: Alot of dynamics, great for drum sounds to make them sound larger than life! SSL: Has a nice "pinched sound", a bit more aggressive in nature, a "go to" rock mix kind of sound. You can choose the flavors of some classic consoles such as SSL, Neve, Trident, API or even an older RCA tube desk! You get the nice "not so clean" summing characteristics of each console, wider sound stages, more depth, subtle gluing, or even more detailed characteristics described below. Slate Digital Created the VCC to cure those problems! Analog summing rolled into a nice plugin package. Tired of having "digititus"? Same old boring "too clean" ITB sound?
